Traveling With Stress and Anxiety

Traveling With Stress and Anxiety

It’s safe to say that traveling can be a stressful event no matter how seasoned a traveler may be. Between all of the new experiences, itineraries, navigating unfamiliar streets, and even new foods, stepping outside of your comfort zone while traveling can be a big deal. Regardless of who you are, this guide is for you.

Stress and Anxiety affect all of us in different ways. For some, it can be more so than others. Despite the worries and stressors, you may have while traveling, don’t let these things keep you from exploring the world.

Protect Yourself

If you may be worried about getting sick or injured while on your journey, purchase a travel insurance policy just in case. Figure out where it is, you’ll be staying and keep note of the local equivalent of 911 in case of emergency. If you’re worried about losing important documents such as your license or passport, keep backups of all your important documents. Make sure to keep them in a safe and secure place. Whether you make photocopies or take pictures, keep them secure.

Pack Smart

Sometimes, it may feel best to postpone packing until the night before a trip but, that isn’t always the case. When you leave packing to the last minute, there’s a much higher chance that something will be forgotten or misplaced. Make your packing list several days before the trip and you can pack at least two days before so you have another day to get together anything else you may need for your trip. Is there something that comforts you or helps you get to sleep? These are the things that will be worth bringing on your trip with you.

Things to Pack to Alleviate Stress and Anxiety

Essential Oils- There are many benefits to essential oils. They are becoming more and more popular for their effective and natural relief provided to many suffering from a variety of ailments. Consider wearing a few drops of Lavender oil on your inner wrists to help keep calm through the day. For a better night’s sleep, consider mixing a spray bottle with Lavender and a little bit of water to spray on pillows and blankets. Other beneficial essential oils include Rose oil, Chamomile, Bergamot, and Frankincense.

Weighted Blanket- While it may not be the ideal for carry on, the Dozeology Weighted Blanket is a great blanket to have in new places. As you sleep, the blanket provides a deep pressure, creating the feeling that you are being hugged or swaddled. That feeling of being hugged is a very powerful stimulus, it allows you to feel more secure. When you feel secure, it will help slow down your mind by providing deep touch pressure stimulation creating a calming, soothing effect that reduces anxiety.

Journal- Considering packing a journal or even a sketchbook on your adventure! Write down your thoughts or take time to draw or sketch any beautiful sights along the way. There’s something very relaxing about observing an entire scene and taking in as many details as possible.

Other Techniques to Try

Throughout the day’s adventures, don’t forget to take long, deep breathes and try to think of the positive aspects. Remember that you’ll be heading home shortly and there are lots of beautiful sights and sounds to take in. Feel free to take a break and distract yourself from your trip by reading your favorite book or listening to your favorite playlist.

Remind yourself of other successful trips that you’ve taken and by the end of your upcoming trip, you’ll have another happy memory to add to that list.
